I have mixed up a mystery batch of white glaze, no idea how it will turn out, but the idea is it will stick to the pot better than my other white glaze. I still want it to crawl, but not crawl off the pot.

Pinch pots

Making a few pinch pots today, it looks simple but to get a good one takes lots of practice. The foot is the hardest part to get right.

Should have something better

Should have something better soon, each time I look at that vase I feel the need to make something better......or pop the giant feldspar bubble that's on the inside.

A new test vase fresh out of the kiln, some dramatic crawling in this one. But still some more tweaking to do.

Theo Schoon Letters

I continue to work on the Theo Schoon letters about his clay stamp designs. It's a very long slow process converting his handwriting into typed text, but in the end it should be a useful resource on the views Schoon had on art, design, method of work, and ceramics. Up to letter 5, with only 42 letters to go. At around 2000 words per letter thats around 80,000 words. That's got to be worth a chocolate fish once its finished.

Here are the results of this experiment. Lets just hope it can be reproduced.
I have just had something good come out of the kiln finally. A thick white crawling glaze...like melting ice

More books for the Library

By chance I found some new books for my ceramics library. I am so pleased. The titles are Michael Cardew by Garth Clark, The Art of Bernard Leach by Carol Hogben and Famous Creamics of Japan-Hagi by Ryosuke Kawano. You just don't see these books for sale very often.
